Here is the complete guide for 2026.
What is a Ration Card and Why Do You Need It?
A ration card is an official government document issued by the state Food Supply Department. It entitles families to purchase subsidised food grains (wheat, rice, sugar, kerosene) from government Fair Price Shops (FPS) under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Beyond subsidised food, a ration card is one of the most widely accepted proof of identity and address documents in India, required for Aadhaar, voter ID, school admission, bank accounts and dozens of government schemes.
